Marilyn Rose Brown
I am a Calgary-based fine arts photographer, painter, writer, actor, musician, linguist, teacher and student.
My career in photography started in Brownies with a Brownie camera, continued in school darkroom courses, graduated to being published in university, moved to a stint in public relations and freelance photojournalism and culminated with exhibitions at Webster and Counter Flux Galleries, Artpoint and Art Spot.
Recurring motifs include abandoned gas stations and barns, construction and deconstruction, unique trees, birds and skies, posters and graffiti, and, oddly enough, gas piping and sewer grates. Old cars have been a favorite subject since my husband started taking me to the junkyard. Personification of objects is quite subconscious in my style.
Limited edition giclee prints are available for these photos, previously published in an eight-part series in Calgary's Fast Forward newspaper. Or view my home gallery for other framed prints.
